LOS ANGELES – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) joined Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) and other state and local officials at the groundbreaking of five new buildings at the West Los Angeles VA. Buildings 401A, 402, 404, 156 and 157 will provide supportive housing for 380 unhoused and at-risk veterans and their families.

Congressional Democrats on Monday reignited an effort to pass federal legislation outlawing the discredited practice of “conversion therapy,” which is a scientifically discredited practice that aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act, introduced Monday in the House by Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) would make it unlawful to provide conversion therapy to “any individual” or promote efforts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

WASHINGTON – This Pride Month, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act, legislation that bans so-called “conversion therapy.” The fraudulent practice seeks to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity based on bunk science and has been recognized by a national community of professionals in education, social work, health, and counseling as a dangerous and useless practice.

The caucus will focus on advancing policies that support independent songwriters and intellectual property protections. Congressmembers Lieu and Cline will serve as co-chairs.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers from the House and Senate wants Congress to set up a blue ribbon commission to study artificial intelligence, with an eye to developing regulations or government oversight of the technology.

The push is led by Rep. Ted Lieu — a California Democrat who boasts an undergraduate degree in computer science — as well as Reps. Ted Buck, R-Colo., and Anna Eschoo, D-Calif. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, plans to introduce a companion bill in the Senate.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers are backing creating a federal commission to develop a strategy for regulating artificial intelligence, the latest addition to a growing crop of legislative proposals tackling new AI tools like ChatGPT.

Reps. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) and Ken Buck (R-Colo.) on Tuesday are introducing a bill that would require Congress and the White House to appoint 20 people across government, industry, civil society and the computer science field to an AI commission.

A bipartisan House bill introduced Tuesday would create a commission to review, recommend and establish regulations for artificial intelligence (AI) technology. 

The 20-member commission would be made up of 10 members appointed by each party and tasked with reviewing the government’s current approach to AI oversight, recommending new structures to put in place, and establishing a risk-based approach to regulating the industry.
