Passport Requests

PASSPORT BASICS
- Processing times for both routine and expedited passport applications frequently change. To check the current processing times for either application, please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/processing-times.html
- It is always recommended that U.S. citizens planning international travel check their passport first before purchasing a flight or planning a trip.
- Make sure to check your passport to ensure that it is both current and will not expire within six months of traveling internationally as most countries require travelers to have passports that will not expire soon after entry.
- If you are traveling within a month, please hold off on submitting a passport application as the Department of State will not be able to process the application within that time frame.
Congressional offices may only send congressional inquiries to passport agencies within 14 days of the constituent’s date of travel. Please be sure to have confirmed travel dates when contacting my office for assistance with your passport.
Congressional offices cannot schedule appointments at a Passport Acceptance Facility (such as a post office or a public library) on behalf of the constituent. Furthermore, offices cannot submit an application or assist in the filing of an application on the constituent’s behalf.
- To schedule an appointment at a Passport Acceptance Facility, please visit https://iafdb.travel.state.gov/.
- To schedule an emergency passport appointment with the Los Angeles Passport Agency for urgent travel only, please visit https://passportappointment.travel.state.gov/.
- To learn more about applying for a passport, please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html.
To assist you with your passport issues, my office can either:
- Check the status of a passport application if the you are traveling within 14 days or applying for a visa within 28 days
- Applicants may check the status of their application online at https://passportstatus.state.gov/.
- Or schedule a Special Handling Appointment with the Los Angeles Passport Agency if you are traveling within 14 days and do not have a pending application.
Applicants may check on the status of their application or schedule a Special Handling Appointment on their own by contacting the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.
The sooner you contact my office within the 14-day window, the more likely you are to receive your passport in time for your flight.
To receive assistance from my office, please confirm you are a constituent by visiting https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative and entering your zip code. Once you have confirmed your address, please complete our Privacy Release Form.
- My office will need one form per applicant, including minors.
- If the applicant is a minor, please make sure to include the minor’s personal information and have a parent or legal guardian sign on their behalf.
- Please send a completed copy of the Privacy Release Form and your proof of travel (in the form of a PDF or JPEG) to my casework team at lieu.casework@mail.house.gov.
If your address does not fall into my district, please contact your respective Representative to receive assistance.
Please do not contact multiple congressional offices, including Senate offices, for the same case. Duplicate congressional inquiries will result in further delays to your request.
