REP LIEU APPLAUDS DOE SELECTION OF CALIFORNIA AS A NATIONAL HYDROGEN HUB

October 13, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement applauding the Department of Energy’s (DOE) selection of California as one of seven states that will house a Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub. Together, the seven hubs will form a national network of clean hydrogen producers, collectively producing nearly a third of the 2030 U.S. production target and reducing 25 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. California will receive up to $1.2 billion to accelerate the development of clean renewable hydrogen in the state, significantly cutting pollution while creating an estimated 220,000 new jobs. The Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub program is a key part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s climate agenda and is funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congress passed and President Biden signed into law in 2021.

“California leads the nation with the most ambitious climate change goals. I’m thrilled our state will become home to one of the new National Clean Hydrogen Hubs. This investment in hydrogen production will cut up to 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions in California each year, which is equivalent to the pollution from 445,000 gas-powered vehicles. It will also add tens of thousands of new jobs and power our clean energy economy. I’m grateful to President Biden for his steadfast leadership in the fight against climate change and look forward to continuing our work to secure a clean energy future.”
