WASHINGTONToday, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced that Gary Hall Jr., former Olympic swimmer and outspoken patient advocate, will join him at the State of the Union in Washington, DC on February 4, 2020. After being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, Hall went on to become an Olympic champion, winning a career total of ten Olympic medals. Although he represented America on the global stage, he still struggled to afford health insurance and insulin payments.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) sent a letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper calling for a regular public disclosure of the number of animals the Defense Department uses in its research. Presently, the American public does not have a full accounting of all species used in animal research at the DoD. An annual disclosure by the department would ensure the DoD continues its efforts to reduce the unnecessary use of animals in testing and research.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement on today's announcement that the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists had decided to move their Doomsday Clock closer to midnight, signifying that we are closer than ever to a nuclear doomsday scenario. According to the Bulletin, the Clock is a globally recognized gauge of the present threats to humanity brought on by nuclear weapons.

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) spoke on the House floor in support of the House's concurrent resolution to stop the President's use of armed forces in Iran without Congressional authorization. The resolution passed on a bipartisan basis. In his remarks, Rep. Lieu reiterated his desire to see a formal Administration policy for Iran.

WASHINGTON - Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed the Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act of 2019. The bill would curb the $10,000 cap on the State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction implemented in the 2017 House GOP tax bill and would also reverse the GOP's massive giveaway to the wealthiest tax bracket.

WASHINGTON – This week, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) championed his bipartisan bill, the City and State Diplomacy Act, during a House Foreign Affairs Committee markup. The bill, which subsequently passed out of committee, is co-led with Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) and focuses on providing federal support for state and local diplomacy efforts. The bill will establish an Office of Subnational Diplomacy at the State Department, which will coordinate overall U.S.

Karen Bass, Alan Lowenthal, Adam Schiff, Nanette Barragan and Lucille Roybal-Allard to the Assistant Secretary of the Army and the Chief of Engineers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers urging them to support the West Basin Municipal Water District's $5 million funding request for the Harbor South Bay project within the Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Fiscal Year 2020 Construction work plan.
