REP LIEU STATEMENT ON SCOTUS DECISION TO MAINTAIN DACA PROGRAM
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program must continue after the Trump Administration tried to eliminate the program that allows some people brought to the United States illegally as children to remain in the U.S. lawfully.
“Yesterday’s ruling that upheld DACA was a victory. I hope every DREAMer is breathing a sigh of relief today. America was built by immigrants, and immigrants continue to be the backbone of our country.
"I came to the United States when I was 3-years-old, and I am eternally grateful that the only home I’ve known has allowed me to achieve the American dream. With this ruling, my hope is that DACA recipients can continue to pursue their dreams and contribute to the beautiful fabric of our country. There is still more work we need to do to reform our country's immigration policies to ensure they are just and humane. But, today we can celebrate a triumph over the Trump Administration’s arbitrary and capricious cruelty. ”
