WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1941, the Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act. This bill, which he cosponsored, prohibits the Department of the Interior from offering any tract for oil and gas leasing or preleasing in the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf planning area or the Pacific Outer Continental Shelf planning area, part of which hugs Rep. Lieu's district.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after it was reported that President Trump's Domestic Policy Council plans to address homelessness following their visit to Los Angeles.

"Combating homelessness is a serious concern in my community and others in California. While Trump's animus towards California is well documented, if he's serious about helping to break the cycle of homelessness, I'd work with him.

WASHINGTON– Today, Reps. Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), and Lou Correa (D-Calif.) introduced a bill to nullify recent policy changes from the Trump administration that would strip automatic citizenship rights from certain children of U.S. military service members and government employees who are born abroad.

Under the new policy, children of service members and government employees who are born abroad would not be automatically considered U.S. citizens, and will instead be required to undergo a complicated application process.

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), speaking at DEFCON, announced the reintroduction of the Ensuring National Constitutional Rights for Your Private Telecommunications (ENCRYPT) Act. The bill, which was reintroduced with Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (D-WA) and Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), would preempt state and local government encryption laws to ensure a uniform, national policy for the interstate issue of encryption technology.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement in response to the United States' formal withdrawal from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) with Russia. The treaty was ratified in 1988 to slow a nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union.

"I am absolutely appalled by the anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled in Santa Monica. During a time where anti-Semitic acts are on the rise, we must roundly condemn this kind of hate. I stand in solidarity with my Jewish constituents and Jews across the country. Hate has no place in our communities."
