Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the house passed the Never Again Education Act, a bipartisan bill meant to strengthen Holocaust education efforts in the United States.

“I’m proud to join my colleagues in passing this important piece of bipartisan legislation,” Rep. Lieu said. “On the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, it is vital to continue efforts to educate future generations on the atrocities of the Holocaust. As the years go on, we must continue to honor the lives of those viciously killed and prevent similar horrors from happening to others. A recent Pew study found that only 45 percent of Americans knew that 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust, and only 43 percent knew that Adolf Hitler came to lead Germany through a democratic political process. That data is terrifying given that we’re seeing an increase in instances of anti-Semitism around the world recently. These realities underscore the importance of demonstrating bipartisan support for Holocaust education, and ensuring future generations understand that horrible things can happen when we normalize or fail to stand up to hatred.”
