LOS ANGELES – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu issued the following statement after Democrats claimed the majority in the House of Representatives, which will usher in a historic wave of diverse Members of Congress.
“A historic number of people made their voices heard yesterday, and today is a new day in America. We will finally have the opportunity to act on the concerns millions of Americans have about corruption in government, their healthcare and our national infrastructure.”
On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that President Trump often uses an unmodified, personal iPhone to communicate with friends and confidants as well as two other iPhones that had been modified by the National Security Agency. According to anonymous White House officials interviewed by the Times, Trump has been repeatedly warned that the calls he makes on these devices are not secure and that “Chinese spies are often listening.”

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Jim McGovern (D-MA) introduced the Arms Sale Oversight Act, which would align House procedures for reviewing major arms sales with existing Senate procedures under the Arms Export Control Act. The bill makes it possible for any House member to force debate on the House floor in the event that the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) does not debate a contested arms sale.

Congress needs to step in, now
Too many bills in Congress have boring, easily forgettable names. But when Rep. Ted Lieu introduced an anti-corruption bill last week, he chose a catchy title: The E. Scott Pruitt Accountability for Government Officials Act of 2018.
The bill, “honoring” the former head of the Environmental Protection Agency, makes it illegal for senior government officials to use public office for private gain. Not slap-on-the-wrist illegal. Up to five years in prison illegal.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after voting against funding to develop a new low-yield nuclear weapon. The funding, which was included in a minibus spending bill package, appropriated $65 million for developing and producing a low-yield nuclear warhead. The so-called tactical weapon could lower the threshold for using nuclear weapons and increase the risk of grave error.
