WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced the introduction of the Expediting Civil Litigation Against the Executive Act to amend Title 28 of the United States Code to expedite the review of covered civil actions to which the President is a party. The bill ensures that civil cases against the President for sexual misconduct, or cases against the President where he/she has a personal financial interest, are given special consideration by district courts and the Supreme Court.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA) introduced legislation to ensure that a President is held accountable for acts to interfere with an election for federal office. The Preventing Presidential Election Interference Act ensures provisions of the Hatch Act expressly list the President and Vice President as subject to the law that criminalizes election interference by federal employees.
