REP LIEU HOSTS SEVENTH-ANNUAL MULTI-DISTRICT SERVICE ACADEMY DAY

LOS ANGELES – On February 19th, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D - Los Angeles County) hosted the Seventh Annual Multi-District Service Academy Day virtually. Attendees heard speakers from the United States Air Force Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Service Academy Day offers prospective service academy students and their parents an opportunity to speak with representatives from service academies and ask questions about the admissions process.
In addition, Congressman Lieu launched a new panel this year focused on supporting minority applicants who are considering applying to the Service Academies. The panel featured Service Academy representatives that specialize in outreach to minority students from each academy, as well as some community members that either currently serve or have served in the military with insight for minority applicants considering this career path.
Students and parents also had an opportunity to meet with various congressional offices to obtain specific information about the nomination process.
"It was a privilege and an honor to host the Seventh Annual Service Academy Day," said Rep. Lieu. "I was inspired to see how many young people were interested in attending a service academy. Attending any one of the prestigious service academies is a great pathway to service. It was my pleasure to help facilitate an event in which prospective students could learn more about the academies from current and former students, admissions officers, and parents alike."
