WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representatives Norma J. Torres (D-CA) and Ted W. Lieu (D-CA) have led a group of fifty-four members of Congress in a letter urging U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to immediately end the policy of deterring migrants from applying for asylum at U.S. ports of entry. The letter comes after reports that two Honduran children were killed in Tijuana over the weekend, highlighting the dangers facing the growing numbers of Central Americans are stranded in Mexican border towns.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the Senate passed H.R. 7327, a bill package that includes the Hack the Department of Homeland Security Act. The bill would establish a bug bounty pilot program – modeled off of similar programs at the Department of Defense and major tech companies. The program will strengthen cyber defenses at DHS by utilizing “white-hat” or ethical hackers to help identify unique and undiscovered vulnerabilities in the DHS networks and data systems. Reps.

"I strongly agree with the President’s decision to withdraw US troops from Syria. Congress never authorized the US to go to war in Syria. While going after terrorists is authorized, both the Obama and Trump Administrations went far beyond the congressionally authorized use of force against terrorists.

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) led a letter signed by 12 Members of Congress who are also veterans to Saudi Arabia Ambassador to the United States Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud. The letter asks him to explain the Washington Post investigation about the Saudi government’s role in sending U.S. veterans to lobby Congress against a bill the Saudis opposed. The Saudi government allegedly reserved nearly 500 rooms at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.
