REP LIEU STATEMENT ON TRUMP ADMINISTRATION EFFORTS TO DISMANTLE GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement on Elon Musk and the Trump Administration’s efforts to dismantle government institutions.

“The insanity coming from the Trump Administration is unacceptable. Instead of addressing the real issues facing Americans—like gas and grocery prices—Elon Musk and Donald Trump are focused on consolidating power, illegally firing federal employees and dismantling the very institutions that hold the powerful accountable. Their actions won’t lower inflation or strengthen our economy. Instead, they will weaken our federal government and waste taxpayer dollars on political retribution.

"To say I’m concerned is an understatement. I’m furious. My office has also been flooded with calls from citizens demanding action. Leader Jeffries has set forth a ten point initial plan of action and we will start executing that plan. For example, House Democrats are preparing legislation to prevent unlawful access to the Department of Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Service payment system. We will also fight to block any effort to steal taxpayer money or defund the critical programs Americans rely on. I will do everything in my power to expose how Musk and Trump are acting against the best interests of the American people.

"I also want people to understand your power to shape public public sentiment. Trump’s first nominee for Attorney General withdrew, and the Administration had to rescind the OMB funding freeze memo, because of pushback from the American people. Abraham Lincoln was right when he said that public sentiment is everything. With it, nothing can fail. Without it, nothing can succeed.

"I spent four years of my life fighting back against the insanity from Trump’s first term. I will do so again and fight for you and with you. We prevailed before, and we will prevail again.”
