REP LIEU APPLAUDS PASSAGE OF BIPARTISAN, BICAMERAL BILL SUPPORTING FEDERAL COURTS

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) praised the House passage of the Federal Judiciary Stabilization Act, which will make 10 temporary federal judgeships permanent. One of those judgeships includes a position in southern California. This bipartisan bill introduced by Rep. Lieu and Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) will help mitigate issues courts across the country have had with high caseloads and federal judge shortages. This bill is the companion to the Senate version, which was introduced by Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and passed the Senate earlier this year. The bill will now head to President Biden to be signed into law.
“Ensuring greater stability for judgeships, including those in California, will help ensure our Judiciary can meet the needs of the American justice system. In making permanent ten temporary federal judgeships, we’re eliminating the uncertainty that comes with an unpredictable legislative budgeting process. This is a bipartisan issue that impacts both red and blue states, and I’m pleased to join my colleagues in both the House and the Senate in seeking to rectify this issue,” said Rep. Lieu.
