WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) joined House Democrats in honoring the 90th anniversary of Social Security. As the Trump Administration continues to gut the Social Security Administration (SSA), Congressman Lieu is advocating for seniors, disabled Americans, and families who have lost loved ones that depend on Social Security.
Congressman Ted Lieu held a telephone town hall July 30 with three top health officials from his 36th District about what will happen now that “The Big Beautiful Bill Act” has become law. It was signed by President Trump July 4. Lieu opposed it.
The health officials on the call were Dr. Anish Mahajan, chief deputy director of L.A. County Department of Public Health; Dr. Mitesh Popat, CEO of Venice Family Clinic; and Dr. Andrea Turner, CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The event took place on a House Democrats’ “Medicaid and Medicare Matters Day of Action.”

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after voting against Donald Trump's Big Ugly Bill, H.R. 1. The bill passed the House 218-214 and will now be signed into law. In California, more than 2.3 million people will lose health insurance and 368,000 could lose access to food assistance because of this bill.
House Democrats are demanding information from the Department of Defense about an incident in which Marines detained a civilian in Los Angeles last week.

LOS ANGELES – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced that applications for the 36th Congressional District’s Youth Advisory Council are now open and will be accepted through Friday, July 11, 2025. The Youth Advisory Council provides a unique opportunity for students to meet with a diverse group of peers, discuss issues of importance and consider ways of getting involved locally. They will recommend bills for the Congressman to cosponsor and brainstorm bill ideas of their own.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) reintroduced their federal ban on LGBTQ conversion therapy. The Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act seeks to ban conversion therapy, a practice where so-called therapists fraudulently claim they can ‘cure’ children of their LGBTQ identities.
WASHINGTON - On Saturday, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) hosted his congressional district’s eleventh-annual reception for the Congressional Art Competition at the Otis College of Art and Design. Students from 19 different high schools submitted 185 pieces of art for this year’s competition. These submissions included 45 photographs, 65 paintings, 38 drawings, 19 mixed-media pieces, and 18 other pieces that included computer-generated art.
California lawmakers Monday announced the reintroduction of the Housing for All Act to address homelessness and the affordable housing crises in the state and across the nation.
The legislation, backed by Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla and Reps. Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara), would invest in proven housing strategies and provide historic federal funding to prevent homelessness, officials said.
