WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu issued the following statement after the House and Senate passed his bill, the Accountability in Assignment Restrictions and Reviews Act, as a part of this year’s National Defense Authorization Act. Congressman Lieu’s bill builds on his previous legislation passed in the FY22 NDAA that focused on creating an independent appeals process and more transparency around State Department employees who are subjected to assignment restrictions.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) introduced the Protecting Americans from Unauthorized Surveillance Act, which would require the involvement of third-party technical experts in every court-ordered decision to surveil a U.S. citizen. This bill would require the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) Court to appoint a technical expert every time it evaluates a FISA application. Currently, the FISA Court relies on technical experts for cases that the court considers particularly complex. Rep.

WASHINGTON – Today, Representatives Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Tom McClintock (R-CA) reintroduced legislation to protect Americans’ privacy in regards to the government’s use of cell site simulators. The bipartisan Cell Site Simulator Warrant Act puts an end to overlapping, confusing policies and laws at the federal, state and local levels by creating clear warrant requirements for use of cell site simulators by any government agency.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) led a letter with Representatives Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) and Veronica Escobar (D-TX) urging the Texas Bar's Chief Disciplinary Counsel to revoke the law license of former President Trump's lawyer, Sidney Powell. This letter comes after Sidney Powell pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts in the Georgia election interference case.

The court has taken a MAGA right turn because of extremists’ concerted effort to transform it into their political weapon. What was once intended to be an apolitical body of reason has now become an arm of partisan extremism.
