WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement on the introduction of H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, of which he is an original cosponsor. This critical legislation would protect voters against discrimination by restoring and strengthening key provisions in the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA), which were gutted by the Supreme Court in the 2013 Shelby County v. Holder decision and the 2021 Brnovich v. DNC decision.

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu applauded the House Foreign Affairs Committee for passing his City And State Diplomacy Act out of Committee. The bill will establish an Office of City and State Diplomacy at the State Department, which will help coordinate overall U.S. policy and programs in support of city and state engagement with foreign governments and officials. Congressman Lieu introduced the bill with House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory Meeks and Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC).

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) released the following statement after the House passed the IG Independence and Empowerment Act, which includes his bill, the Inspector General Protection Act, to enhance the independence and integrity of the federal government's inspectors general. The IG Protection Act will require federal agencies and departments to notify Congress before enacting a personnel change, and require the President to report to Congress if an IG has not been nominated for 210 days after a position becomes vacant.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) sent a letter with 21 Members of Congress urging the Biden Administration to extend Temporary Protected Status to 1,400 Yemeni nationals living in the United States. The Members urged Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to extend TPS status by 18 months because of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

The practice fraudulently seeks to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity based on bunk science and has been recognized by the national community of professionals in education, social work, health, and counseling as a dangerous and useless practice.
