Lieu has been a vocal advocate for bail reform, and has introduced legislation to reduce and eliminate the use of money bail.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee held a historic markup of H.J.Res. 79, which would facilitate the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). If ratified, the ERA will enshrine women's equality in the Constitution by prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex. H.J.Res. 79, which was introduced by Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), would remove the arbitrarily short deadline for ratification established when Congress originally passed the ERA in 1972.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) congratulated comedian Bowen Yang after Yang was named the first Asian American cast member in "Saturday Night Live's" history.

"Congratulations @BowenYang!!" Lieu, who is also Asian American, tweeted.

Yang, who joined the show as a staff writer last year and has portrayed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was added among three new hires Thursday.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after it was reported that President Trump's Domestic Policy Council plans to address homelessness following their visit to Los Angeles.

"Combating homelessness is a serious concern in my community and others in California. While Trump's animus towards California is well documented, if he's serious about helping to break the cycle of homelessness, I'd work with him.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a change Wednesday regarding its citizenship policy for children born to some US service members and government employees, which left many confused and shocked, even after the agency issued clarification later Wednesday night.
