WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed an appropriations bill with an accompanying report that directs the Bureau of Justice Statistic (BJS) to collect information on pretrial detention. Rep. Lieu has been a vocal advocate of pretrial detention reform since entering Congress and has called for ending the use of money bail. Nearly a quarter of individuals incarcerated in the United States have not been convicted of a crime.

WASHINGTON, D.C.–On the eve of the Capitol Hill Armenian Genocide Observance, Congressmen Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) were joined by over 70 of their U.S. House colleagues in introducing a new Armenian Genocide Resolution aimed at establishing, as a matter of U.S. policy, 1) the rejection of Armenian Genocide denial, 2) ongoing official U.S. government recognition and remembrance of this crime, and 3) the importance of education about the Armenian Genocide in preventing modern-day atrocities, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Congressman Steve Stivers (R-OH) today introduced the "Fighting Homelessness Through Services and Housing Act", a bill to increase federal resources to battle homelessness. Specifically, the bill authorizes $750 million in grants annually for the next five years for local governments to combat homelessness.
