REP LIEU URGES PRESIDENT TO SUPPORT CONGRESSIONAL EFFORTS TO ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS

September 11, 2019

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after it was reported that President Trump's Domestic Policy Council plans to address homelessness following their visit to Los Angeles.

"Combating homelessness is a serious concern in my community and others in California. While Trump's animus towards California is well documented, if he's serious about helping to break the cycle of homelessness, I'd work with him.

"In fact, we already have great bills moving through Congress that I'd recommend he support. Earlier this year, I joined Sen. Feinstein, Sen. Murkowski and Rep. Stivers in introducing the ‘Fighting Homelessness Through Services and Housing Act'. Our bill supports holistic efforts to address homelessness by providing grants to local governments around the country. It's a great bill and I hope the President will support it. Another promising bill I'm proud to support is Rep. Waters' ‘Ending Homelessness Act of 2019', which would appropriate $13.27 billion in new funding to address the homelessness crisis in America. I'd welcome the President's good-faith support of these and other compassionate initiatives to address homelessness in our communities."
