WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) spoke on the floor in support of his Defense appropriations amendment to stop the Trump Administration from selling weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates without Congressional approval. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel and Congressman Pete Visclosky (D-IN) spoke in support of the amendment.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2476, Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act of 2019. This bill authorizes the Department of Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) and increases its funding from $60 million to $75 million. In 2016 and 2018, Congressman Lieu sent letters of support for the program, which helps nonprofit institutions like synagogues, churches and mosques improve their security protections.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and 12 members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee sent a bipartisan letter to Secretary Pompeo requesting clarification over U.S. policy in Libya. A generic read-out of President Trump's phone call with Khalifa Haftar on April 15 has led to perceived uncertainty regarding the U.S. position. Libyan armed actors are now using that confusion over U.S. policy as justification to continue the conflict, further jeopardizing prospects for a political settlement and threatening regional stability.

The bill will offer a path to lawful permanent residence status to Dreamers and people who either held or were eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED). The House passed this bill 237 to 187, with bipartisan support.
