REP LIEU CELEBRATES THE PASSAGE OF H.R. 6, THE AMERICAN DREAM AND PROMISE ACT

June 4, 2019

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the American Dream and Promise Act, H.R. 6. The bill will offer a path to lawful permanent residence status to Dreamers and people who either held or were eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED). The House passed this bill 237 to 187, with bipartisan support.

"As an immigrant, I am proud to have voted in favor of this important legislation. Dreamers came here as children and know nothing other than the United States. They have grown up in this country, have fallen in love with this country and have already enriched this country. TPS and DED holders have lived in our communities for years and also deserve permanent protections.Like me, these individuals believe in the American Dream and the opportunities our country provides for those willing to work hard.

Our bill celebrates their patriotism and does what's right for law-abiding individuals who want to contribute to the rich fabric of the United States. I'm proud that the House passed this bill today."
