WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) introduced the bipartisan “City and State Diplomacy Act”, which will support state and local diplomacy with counterparts abroad. The bill will establish an Office of Subnational Diplomacy at the State Department, which will coordinate overall U.S. policy and programs in support of city and state engagement with foreign governments and officials.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after introducing an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 that would prohibit the emergency sale of arms to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. On June 18, 2019, the House passed Congressman Lieu’s amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2020 on a bipartisan basis to block the execution of these 22 emergency sales.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed an appropriations bill with an accompanying report that directs the Bureau of Justice Statistic (BJS) to collect information on pretrial detention. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2476, Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act of 2019. This bill authorizes the Department of Homeland Security’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) and increases its funding from $60 million to $75 million. In 2016 and 2018, Congressman Lieu sent letters of support for the program, which helps nonprofit institutions like synagogues, churches and mosques improve their security protections.
