WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) urged Vice President Mike Pence, head of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, to articulate a plan for how the federal government will address potential shortages of a vital component of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) tests. Public reports indicate that multiple clinical labs in the U.S. do not have an adequate supply of chemical reagents, which are necessary for the COVID-19 tests.

President Donald Trump has described the World Health Organization's (WHO) assessment of the COVID-19 global death rate as being based on a "false number."
In a phone interview with Fox News, the president said he believed coronavirus rates were closer to "a fraction of one percent," and not the 3.4 percent rate that the WHO stated.
That figure was cited by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Tuesday, who pointed out the mortality rate was much higher than that of the seasonal flu.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after both Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County declared a public health emergency as a proactive measure to stave off the spread of COVID-19 ("the coronavirus") in the Los Angeles community. But even the most liberal House Democrats have reservations about that sort of strategy.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) sent a letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper calling for a regular public disclosure of the number of animals the Defense Department uses in its research. Presently, the American public does not have a full accounting of all species used in animal research at the DoD. An annual disclosure by the department would ensure the DoD continues its efforts to reduce the unnecessary use of animals in testing and research.
Dear Secretary Esper,
