President Barack Obama announced Monday that UCLA will house a new manufacturing research center to increase manufacturing efficiency in the U.S.
The UCLA center will be part of a national network of manufacturing institutes under the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute, with locations in Texas, New York, Washington and North Carolina, according to a White House press release.

At ExxonMobil’s shareholder meeting on May 25, a modest resolution requiring the oil giant to outline how climate change will affect its business model was rejected, 62 percent to 38 percent. Following the Paris climate accord last December, an unprecedented coalition of investors, including the pension funds of New York, Vermont and California, joined together to spearhead this resolution.
Nineteen Democratic members of California’s congressional delegation are encouraging their attorney general to continue her investigation into ExxonMobil Corp.’s climate science.
In a letter to Attorney General and Senate candidate Kamala Harris (D), the Democrats said they were “supportive of your investigation” into allegations that Exxon misled the public about what it knew about climate change.
