Encryption advocates and national security leaders let out a collective sigh of relief last month when the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice abruptly withdrew the legal motion against Apple over a locked iPhone. The hastily crafted lawsuit was a risky gambit to circumvent Congress and set a dangerous legal precedent with an 18th century law to compel U.S. technology companies to undermine their own digital security.

Los Angeles – Last week, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) announced his latest legislation: the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area Boundary Adjustment Act (H.R. 4871). Mr. Lieu was Joined by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin, Culver City Councilman Jim Clarke and Manhattan Beach City Councilman Wayne Powell at the announcement in front of the Ballona Freshwater Marsh.

Washington - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) issued the following statement given the announcement by Vice President Al Gore and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman of a coalition of 20 states dedicated to holding oil companies accountable for their fraud on climate science.
Congressman Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued a statement following the Department of Justice’s decision to withdraw its lawsuit against Apple to compel the technology company to create new firmware to undermine the iPhone’s built-in digital security. On February 23, Congressman Lieu sent a letter to FBI Director James Comey requesting that the FBI withdraw the lawsuit.
