REP LIEU CELEBRATES OPENING OF SOUTH BAY YOUTH WELLNESS CENTER SUPPORTED BY FEDERAL MONEY HE SECURED

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) participated in the official public opening of the Allcove Beach Cities Youth Wellness Center in Redondo Beach, California. Congressman Lieu requested and secured $1,000,000 in federal funding for the Center in the Fiscal Year 2022 government spending package. The funding has allowed Beach Cities Health District to build a dedicated health facility to expand the Allcove Youth Wellness Center, creating a one-stop-shop for young people to access mental health and other services in Los Angeles County.
Congressman Lieu issued the following statement after touring the Allcove Center and presenting a ceremonial $1,000,000 check to Beach Cities Health District.
"It was a great pleasure to join the public opening of the Allcove Youth Wellness Center, a program for which I secured funding in the Fiscal Year 2022 government spending package. The Beach Cities Health District is a public agency providing critical health services, healthy living programs, and youth programming for residents in the South Bay. According to a State of California study, approximately 1 in 3 young people say they lack access to mental health resources. That is a huge, yet preventable, problem. The creation of this Youth Wellness Center addresses the urgent need to expand access to mental health services in our community. Allcove is based on a successful model pioneered by the Stanford Center on Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing. It was an honor to have championed the Beach Cities Health District's work in Congress and I'm continuously grateful for all they do to help ensure young people have the resources they need to lead a healthier and happier life."
"We're extremely grateful for Congressman Lieu's support of the allcove Beach Cities project, and happy he was able to join us today," said Beach Cities Health District CEO Tom Bakaly. "He was able to generate $1 million for us through Congress, funding that helped get the allcove center open and providing mental health resources for the young people of the South Bay."
More on the Youth Wellness Center:
Allcove Beach Cities will offer mental and physical health services and resources for young people ages 12-25 in the greater South Bay area. It is one of five new allcove locations opening across the state of California. The Center will provide services regardless of ability to pay, which will help close the accessibility and affordability gap and reduce the health and economic burdens of untreated mental health concerns. By focusing on prevention and early intervention, the allcove Youth Wellness Center will be able to help identify mental health disorders from the outset, modifying risk exposure and strengthening the coping mechanisms of young people to help them establish a purposeful path in life. The project focuses on vulnerable and marginalized youth and populations of youth with known disparities such as LGBTQIA, homeless, and indigenous youth.
More on Congressman Lieu's work securing Community Project Funding:
Each year, Congress is responsible for allocating overall funding for offices, programs, and grants administered by the federal government. As a Member of Congress, Representative Lieu has the opportunity to advocate for programs that are beneficial to California's 36th Congressional District and the constituents he represents.
In Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023, Congressman Lieu secured a total of over $33 million in federal funding for various community projects in LA County. The projects address an array of pressing needs in California's 36th District – from reducing homelessness to protecting our endangered wildlife, supporting our young populations, and more.
