REP LIEU SECURES NEARLY $11 MILLION FOR 10 LOCAL PROJECTS

March 9, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) voted for a spending package that includes close to $11 million in Community Project Funding that he requested for 10 projects in California's 33rd Congressional District. This funding, included in the appropriations government funding package, responds directly to critical needs in Los Angeles County.

"I am pleased that the Community Project Funding that I pushed for has passed the House, will go to the Senate for a vote, and is expected to become law soon," Rep. Lieu said. "Millions of dollars—$10,849,650 in fact—will go directly to projects in Los Angeles County. This funding will provide millions of dollars for homelessness programs, affordable housing, health care facilities and community centers in my district. I am proud to have worked alongside so many local leaders to help ensure our community has the resources it needs for a healthier, safer, and more resilient future."

Rep. Lieu championed funding for 10 projects that will directly benefit Los Angeles County residents. These include:

  • $2,000,000 for Santa Monica Parking Lot Affordable Housing Conversion
  • $1,500,000 for CIRCLE 24/7: Crisis and Incident Response through Community-Led Engagement
  • $1,000,000 for Torrance Homelessness Response - Encampment Infrastructure
  • $1,000,000 for Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center
  • $1,000,000 for Fairfax Cool Neighborhoods
  • $1,000,000 for Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles, CA for facilities and equipment
  • $1,000,000 for Southern California Regional Occupational Center, Torrance, CA for a workforce development initiative
  • $1,000,000 for Beach Cities Health District, Redondo Beach, CA for facilities and equipment for the Youth Wellness Center
  • $749,650 for Arnold Avenue Rehabilitation
  • $600,000 for Regents of the University of California, Los Angeles, CA for the purchase of equipment, including telehealth equipment

The overall government funding package will help families with the rising costs of living, create American jobs, support the vulnerable, and work to help small businesses and restaurants that have faced difficulties over the past few years. Taken together, the funding for CA-33 and the funding increases for critical government programs will reverse decades of disinvestment in our communities and strengthen our nation.

This legislation is expected to be voted on by the Senate and signed into law by President Biden later this week.
