WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced that he helped secure $5.8 million for five community funding projects meant to help address homelessness in Los Angeles County in the Fiscal Year 2022 House Appropriations Bills. The inclusion of this funding in the Appropriations Committee draft bills is the essential first step in ultimately securing these resources for the community.

Lieu and Senators Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla (all D-Calif.) introduced the Fighting Homelessness Through Services and Housing Act, a bill to increase federal resources to battle homelessness. The bill authorizes $1 billion in grants annually for the next five years for local governments to combat homelessness.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after reintroducing the Stop Waste And Misuse by the President Act of 2021, otherwise known as the SWAMP Act. This legislation compels individuals who are authorized for protection by the United States Secret Service under 18 USC 3056, including former presidents, to reimburse the American taxpayer for federal funds spent during the course of their protection at commercial properties that the individual owns or has a financial interest in.

Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) and Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) are leading an effort with 25 Members of the California delegation to vocalize support for California's $1 billion in annual, ongoing funding for local jurisdictions to address homelessness. In a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom, the Members also expressed their endorsement of programs to supplement California's efforts to address homelessness with federal resources.

The bill includes nearly $20 million in federal resources for projects in California's 33rd Congressional District. The INVEST in America Act is a transformative $547 billion surface transportation reauthorization bill that seeks to modernize our roads, bridges, transit, and more.
