LOS ANGELES – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement recognizing the one-year anniversary of the Woolsey Fire. In November 2018, the Woolsey fire burned 1,643 structures, prompted the evacuation of almost 300,000 residents, and killed three people.
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) testified before the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis during their "Member Day" hearing. The Congressman spoke in support of broad efforts to mitigate climate change and highlighted his bills, the Climate Solutions Act and the Renewable Energy for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands Act.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Lieu issued the following statement after the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security held a hearing on bail reform. Rep. Lieu has been a vocal advocate for bail reform, and has introduced legislation to reduce and eliminate the use of money bail.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee held a historic markup of H.J.Res. 79, which would facilitate the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). If ratified, the ERA will enshrine women’s equality in the Constitution by prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex. H.J.Res. 79, which was introduced by Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), would remove the arbitrarily short deadline for ratification established when Congress originally passed the ERA in 1972.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement in response to reports that more than 200 rockets are being fired from Gaza at Israel.
“No nation can allow its civilians to be targeted by rocket fire. Israel has every right to defend itself from terrorists and the United States must continue to support our ally. I am proud of the support Congress has given to Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system that today is helping to prevent civilian casualties from hostile foreign actors.”
LOS ANGELES - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) hosted a community forum honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans in California’s 33rd district. The event was held in order to establish a greater understanding between local veterans and our community. Non-veterans attended, listened and learned from veterans who shared their stories.
LOS ANGELES – Today, ahead of Veterans Day, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced two bills to benefit the local VA campus: the West Los Angeles VA Campus Improvement Act of 2019 and the Ensuring Access to West Los Angeles VA Easement Funds Act of 2019. These measures amend the West Los Angeles Leasing Act of 2016 to ensure that the West Los Angeles VA campus is able to recoup much-needed resources in service of our nation’s veterans.
LOS ANGELES – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the Senate passed the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act, which Rep. Lieu cosponsored in the House. The PACT Act criminalizes the acts of animals being crushed, burned, drowned, suffocated, impaled, or subjected to other forms of cruelty as they affect interstate trade or foreign commerce. The PACT Act is now expected to be signed into law.
LOS ANGELES - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) congratulates local partners on securing funding for the construction of a permanent bridge on Mulholland Highway over Triunfo Creek. Construction is expected to start early next year with anticipated completion in October of 2020. The bridge was one of three damaged or destroyed by the November 2018 Woolsey Fire.
