A computer virus wreaked havoc on firms around the globe on Wednesday as it spread to more than 60 countries, disrupting ports from Mumbai to Los Angeles and halting work at a chocolate factory in Australia.
Risk-modeling firm Cyence said economic losses from this week's attack and one last month from a virus dubbed WannaCry would likely total $8 billion. That estimate highlights the steep tolls businesses around the globe face from growth in cyber attacks that knock critical computer networks offline.
Leaked NSA exploits have now been the basis for two massive cyberattacks. The first -- Wannacry -- caught hospitals and other critical infrastructure across several nations in the crossfire, using a tool built on the NSA's ETERNALBLUE exploit backbone. The second seems to be targeting Ukraine, causing the same sort of havoc but with a couple of particularly nasty twists.

Washington – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) sent a letter to House Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce requesting a hearing on the Trump Administration's strategy in Afghanistan. Mr. Lieu's letter comes on the heels of recent Trump Administration decisions to expand the U.S. military role in Afghanistan.

California Rep. Ted Lieu (D) drew comparisons between President Trump and former President Richard Nixon on Saturday, saying that history is repeating itself as Trump takes actions reminiscent of Watergate.
"This week is the 45th anniversary of Watergate and we're watching history repeat itself," Lieu told CNN anchor Ana Cabrera on Saturday. "Nixon ignored his advisers and went into full attack mode, attacking his own Department of Justice and saying the press is the enemy of the people. We see Trump doing something similar."
