WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray requesting that he brief Congress on the FBI's notification policy regarding cyberattacks against current and former U.S. government officials. The letter follows reports that the FBI, despite knowing about the threat, did not notify potential U.S. targets that their personal Gmail accounts could be vulnerable to Russian hacking.
Rep. Ted Lieu wants the FBI to brief lawmakers about why the agency didn't inform dozens of former and current U.S. officials that they were the targets of Russian hackers.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D – Los Angeles County) sent a letter to Secretary of Defense James Mattis urging the Department of Defense to respond to and take corrective actions following a New York Times story suggesting the Pentagon underreported civilian casualties resulting from airstrikes against ISIS. Rep. Lieu, who served on active duty as a JAG, asked for clarification on the steps the Pentagon is taking to mitigate civilian casualties during Operation Inherent Resolve.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) on Tuesday grilled Attorney General Jeff Sessions during a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, peppering the nation's top cop with questions about his past statements about meeting with Russian officials.
During the questioning, Lieu suggested that Sessions lied to lawmakers when he failed to disclose the meetings during his confirmation hearing after being asked about contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
"You did have communications with the Russians last year, isn't that right?" Lieu pressed.
Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions insisted Tuesday that he omitted mention of meetings with the then-Russian ambassador when he filled out security forms because he had been advised that senators need not list official meetings.
Sessions said he was told by his executive assistant that, given the volume of meetings senators take part in, "we were not required to list" them on forms that asked for any communication with foreign officials.
The attorney general said he thought that approach "was reasonable."
