Congressman Lieu Statement on LGBT Pride Month 2015

June 14, 2015

Today, Congressman Lieu released a video statement honoring June 2015 as LGBT Pride Month:

"I want to join all Americans and the LGBT community in commemorating LGBT Pride Month. Every June, we honor the courageous work of activists fighting for equality and celebrate the huge advances they have made. The LGBT movement has made incredible strides and achieved victories that seemed impossible even five or ten years ago.

During Pride Month, we also recognize the work that is left to be done as we continue to combat ignorance and bigotry. LGBT Americans still face significant barriers to marriage equality, equal access to education, and strong protections against employment discrimination. Our country's founding principles of liberty and equality will not be fully realized until we eliminate injustices such as conversion therapy and discrimination based on orientation or gender identity.

As we await the Supreme Court's decision on the right to marry with great hope, I truly believe that 2015 will be a landmark year for LGBT equality. By honoring the history of those who have gone before us and dedicating ourselves to continuing their fight, I know we will be able to secure a better future for all Americans, no matter who they love."
