REP LIEU THANKS SPEAKER PELOSI FOR HER DEDICATED LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE AS SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE

November 17, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement following Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announcement that she will be stepping down from House leadership next Congress.

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi is the best Speaker ever, period.

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi is patriotism personified. Through 35 years of service and leadership, she has selflessly and fearlessly put the American people first. In 2007, she became the first woman ever elected to serve as Speaker of the House. In her four terms as Speaker, she has been the chief engineer of lifesaving legislation under two Democratic administrations, including the Affordable Care Act and the American Rescue Plan – all while serving the needs of her own constituents in California's 12th District.

"Speaker Pelosi expertly navigated the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which is strengthening roads, bridges, and highways; bringing broadband everywhere; and creating jobs across the country now and for years to come. She also paved the way for the enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act, historic legislation to bring down the costs of prescription drugs, lower energy and health care costs, and deliver the largest investment in tackling the climate crisis ever. Throughout each of these endeavors, the needs of hardworking American families were always her top priority.

"As a staunch advocate and powerful voice for climate action, health care reform, full equality, and human rights around the world, Speaker Pelosi has been a magnificent leader of the Democratic Party. I am immensely honored to have served alongside her in House leadership, and express my deep gratitude for her devoted service to our nation. While we will miss her as our fierce leader in Congress, we wish her the best of luck as she steps down from her leadership post. Thank you, Speaker Pelosi."
