REP LIEU SWORN IN FOR FOURTH TERM IN CONGRESS

January 3, 2021

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after being sworn into Congress for his fourth term representing California's 33rd Congressional District.

"It is my honor and privilege to represent California's 33rd Congressional District once again. I am grateful that my constituents continue to put their trust in me to represent them in Congress. While I believe the future is bright, we are still in the middle of the most devastating pandemic in modern history. In this remarkably challenging time, Congress's role is more important than ever. We need to provide more relief for families, businesses and communities impacted by the pandemic. We need to get Americans vaccinated. We need to encourage all Americans to wear masks and practice social distancing. We need to ensure our healthcare professionals have the PPE and equipment they need. There is so much work to be done.

"The Trump Administration's unwillingness to lead has had grave consequences for our country, as our present crisis shows. I have full confidence that, once sworn in, President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris will put into place the kind of organization and leadership needed to beat this deadly pandemic.

"Moreover, we'll need to take actions to undo the harm of the last four years. Congress and the Biden Administration will need to close the gaps in federal law and policy that allowed for the rampant corruption we saw under Trump. We will need to work together on critical issues like climate change, infrastructure and criminal justice reform. We will need to work to regain the trust and confidence of our allies abroad. It's going to be hard work, but I believe we can do it.

"I look forward to continuing to fight on behalf of my constituents during this term. It's clear that the 117th Congress will be full of challenges, but I am ready to get to work."
