REP LIEU STATEMENT ON RECENT TRUMP INDICTMENT

LOS ANGELES - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after former President Donald Trump was indicted for his role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“The seriousness of the most recent indictment of former President Donald Trump cannot be understated. Trump has been indicted for his role in attempting to subvert the will of the voters in the 2020 election and for obstructing an official proceeding. When I served as an impeachment manager for Trump’s second impeachment, we argued that a failure to bring justice for the horrors of January 6th would be a stain on America. The Department of Justice’s efforts to hold those accountable for their role in the insurrection should be allowed to move forward without political interference. Like any criminal defendant, Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence. Law enforcement and the judiciary should be allowed to continue to do their jobs in case this without political interference.”
