REP LIEU STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF EQUALITY ACT
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed the Equality Act. This legislation extends anti-discrimination protections in employment, education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding, housing and public accommodations. Rep. Lieu is a cosponsor of the Equality Act.
"I am pleased that the House has passed the Equality Act. This brings us one step closer to ensuring that LGBTQ Americans have clear and consistent protection under federal civil rights laws. All Americans are entitled to equal protection under the eyes of the law and this bill makes good on that promise. No one should be denied the right to housing, employment or schooling because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. I implore the Senate to pass this bill quickly so President Biden can sign it into law."
