REP LIEU STATEMENT ON HATEFUL INCIDENT DIRECTED AT REP JAYAPAL AND HER FAMILY

WASHINGTON – Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement on news that Representative Pramila Jayapal and her family were threatened over the weekend by a man now being investigated for committing a hate crime.

"I was outraged to learn that Representative Pramila Jayapal and her family were the victims of a racist and threatening incident this past weekend. I am glad everyone is physically okay and that the perpetrator has been arrested. Violent and threatening crimes targeting Asian Americans have dramatically increased in the last few years, often fomented by dangerous rhetoric from the right. This incident was a hate crime and I'm pleased it is being investigated as such."
