REP LIEU PRAISES NATO FOLLOWING JOINT MEETING OF CONGRESS WITH NATO SECRETARY GENERAL
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after His Excellency Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), addressed a joint meeting of Congress today.
“NATO remains our strongest international alliance—one built on a shared responsibility to promote peace and global stability. NATO members are committed to the rule of law and democratic values, and the U.S.’s strength as a global superpower is intertwined with this critical coalition. I’m grateful to hear NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reaffirm this view in his own words. Inviting him here today to speak reaffirms Congress’s commitment to our allies and to this critical transatlantic alliance. I hope Donald Trump will not make any more disparaging remarks about NATO. Weakening the shield of NATO emboldens our allies, invites aggression, and harms US national security.”
