REP LIEU STATEMENT ON AIR FORCE REPORT SHOWING THAT DIVERTING FUNDS TO BORDER WALL RISKS NATIONAL SECURITY
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after NBC News reported that the Air Force compiled a report of the 51 military projects that President Trump plans to divert funds from to help pay for a border wall between the United States and Mexico.
“As a military veteran, it is clear to me that Trump is putting our country’s safety at risk by diverting Air Force funds to pay for his border wall. I served on Active Duty at the base in Guam that is among those Trump wants to shake down for border wall money. Andersen Air Force base, and other Air Force bases, are essential for our national security. I trust that if the Air Force is saying projects like the construction of a munitions storage facility at Andersen AFB are critical, they mean it. Taking over $3.6 billion meant for critical projects from our armed services to deliver on an outlandish campaign promise is dangerous and crooked. I will do everything possible to stop this from happening.”
