REP LIEU PROVISION TO PROHIBIT FUNDING FOR DOJ'S OPERATION LEGEND INCLUDED IN FINAL SPENDING BILL
WASHINGTON - Today, the House passed H.R. 7617, a spending bill that includes an amendment introduced by Representatives Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Deb Haaland (D-NM), and Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) that prohibits funds from being used to expand federal law enforcement engagement in Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee and other U.S. cities under Operation Legend and Operation Relentless Pursuit.
"It has been distressing to see Trump send federal forces into cities that don't want them there," said Rep. Lieu. "This political ploy is not actually helpful for those communities and is an act of desperation from the President, who is hemorrhaging public trust and support. The House has made it clear that we won't allow Trump to send untrained, unwelcome stormtroopers into American cities. "
