REP LIEU PRAISES FIRST IMAGES FROM JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE

July 13, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), cochair of the California Aerospace Caucus, issued the following statement celebrating the release of the first images from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. The telescope, the most complex and powerful of its kind, was designed and developed by Northrop Grumman.

"I am pleased to congratulate NASA on the stellar first images from the James Webb Space Telescope released this week. This project, managed by Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach, ushers in a meteoric new era of space exploration and deeper understanding of our cosmos. The gravity of this moment is unparalleled, and I am proud to celebrate my district's role in the launch of the world's largest space telescope. Webb will provide unprecedented information about our cosmic history, from the Big Bang to the formation of the solar system we call home. As Co-Chair of the California Aerospace Caucus, I know the importance that space exploration has in our engagement with the natural world. I look forward to continued progress from NASA, Northrop Grumman, and Southern California's aerospace innovators, who have long gravitated toward space exploration and discovery."
