REP. LIEU MEETS WITH UCLA STUDENTS ON DACA AND UNDOCUMENTED YOUTH

September 22, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after holding a round-table discussion with UCLA students about protecting undocumented youth. On September 5, 2017, President Trump announced his intention to repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provided deportation relief to undocumented youth who entered the United States as children and met additional requirements. Congress must now enact a law to provide relief for these individuals.

"Ending DACA will have real and severely harmful consequences for undocumented youth, including students in Los Angeles, who want nothing more than to continue living and working in the country they call home. This is not the time for political games. I urge my Republican colleagues to join Democrats in supporting a clean passage of the DREAM Act and demanding that Speaker Ryan bring it to the floor for a vote."
