REP LIEU JOINS EL SEGUNDO CITY COUNCIL TO HIGHLIGHT FUNDING HE SECURED FOR LOCAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
LOS ANGELES – Yesterday, Congressman Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) joined members of the El Segundo City Council to celebrate over $320,000 he secured for El Segundo’s Emergency Operations Center Project. The project will improve emergency and disaster preparedness in El Segundo by upgrading technology and equipment in the City’s Emergency Operations Center. These upgrades will strengthen the City’s ability to promptly notify relevant officials and the community in case of emergency, including hazardous material incidents, earthquakes, fires, severe weather events and more. Congressman Lieu secured $322,500 for this project in the Fiscal Year 2024 government appropriations package.
Congressman Lieu issued the following statement after joining the City Council for their regular business meeting and presenting the check for their project funding. He was joined by El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles, Mayor Pro Tem Chris Pimental, Councilmembers Lance Giroux, Carol Pirsztuk and Ryan Baldino, and Emergency Management Coordinator Todd DeVoe.
“Because a strong earthquake can strike at anytime, and climate change is causing increasingly severe weather events, we must be prepared to respond effectively to different contingencies,” said Congressman Lieu. “El Segundo’s Emergency Operations Center plays an essential role in the notification process for proper officials and residents during and after emergencies. I’m pleased to support their upgrades and community protection efforts through this funding.”
