REP LIEU HOSTS 2024 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced this year’s winners of the Congressional Art Competition following his tenth annual reception for entrants at the Otis College of Art and Design in California’s 36th District. Students representing 19 different high schools across the district submitted 187 pieces of art for this year’s competition. These submissions included 45 photographs, 57 paintings, 37 drawings, 29 mixed-media pieces and 19 other pieces, including computer-generated art.
This year’s winner, Dahlia Solomon from Vistamar School, submitted a piece called Mizobe. As the first-place winner, Dahlia will receive a trip to Washington, D.C., to attend an awards ceremony and see their piece displayed in the U.S. Capitol along with winning pieces from other congressional districts across the country. The second and third place winners will have their art displayed for one year in the Congressman’s Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles offices. First, second and third place winners, as well as honorable mentions, received scholarships in recognition of their achievement. All student participants received certificates and a swag bag.
“Our congressional district is home to some of the country’s most talented artists,” Congressman Lieu said. “Each year I look forward to reviewing submissions and am impressed with the quality, creativity and technical ability demonstrated by these students. I look forward to seeing Dahlia’s remarkable work displayed in the Capitol. This piece, and each of the wonderful submissions this year, prove that some of the next generation of great American artists will be coming from our district.”
