REP LIEU CONDEMNS GOP INACTION ON GUN VIOLENCE

April 11, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement in light of the recent shootings in Louisville, Kentucky and Washington, D.C., where a combined total of six people were killed and 11 people were injured. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 147 mass shootings so far this year.

“From now on, I will be issuing this quote immediately for all mass shootings.

‘The Republican policy of doing absolutely nothing in response to mass shootings other than saying thoughts and prayers has failed. As policymakers, Members of Congress are expected to come up with solutions to pressing issues facing our nation. Democrats have introduced a number of commonsense gun safety reforms, including an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, a ban on pistol braces, and more. I urge my Republican colleagues to do their jobs and stop obstructing this legislation. Lives are at risk until they act.’”
