REP LIEU APPLAUDS $1.24 BILLION GRANT FROM BIDEN ADMINISTRATION FOR LA COUNTY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

January 13, 2022

LOS ANGELES –Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced that the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) would be receiving a $1.24 billion grant award from funds allocated in the American Rescue Plan (ARP). This ARP transit grant program assists transit agencies around the country by enabling them to operate and employ critical transit workers as communities manage the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"I am pleased that Metro is receiving a $1.24 billion grant thanks to the Biden Administration and the American Rescue Plan law. I voted for the American Rescue Plan in early 2021 because I believe it is crucial that our communities receive assistance while contending with the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. This specific grant provides a lifeline for our community's vital public transportation sector, which is relied upon by millions of residents including commuters, seniors, persons with disabilities and low-income individuals. Congressional Democrats and the Biden Administration fought hard for the people to ensure communities would receive the support they needed after such a difficult period. This grant is one example of delivering on that commitment."
