REP LIEU ANNOUNCES OVER $417K IN PUBLIC SAFETY GRANTS FOR CA-36

WASHINGTON, DC – This week, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced that five cities in California’s 36th Congressional district will receive a total of over $417,000 in community safety and justice grants from the Department of Justice. The DOJ’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) offers grants to help local jurisdictions strengthen community safety, advance civil rights, and support victims of crimes. The grants in Congressman Lieu’s Congressional district will go towards technology and vehicle upgrades, police canines, and other initiatives to support local law enforcement.
“We must ensure that our local law enforcement agencies have access to the tools they need to maintain public safety while prioritizing Americans’ civil rights,” said Congressman Lieu. Each of the OJP grants coming to coastal Los Angeles County will advance efforts to support victims of crime, improve community safety and promote equity in our justice system. I look forward to continued work with our federal, state and local partners to keep our community safe.”
The OJP’s grants to local governments and law enforcement agencies in and around California’s 36th Congressional district include:
- City of Redondo Beach, $13,698 for automated license plate reader technology
- City of Santa Monica, $44,021 to support criminal justice or civil proceedings
