ICYMI: REP. LIEU’S INTERVIEW WITH NEWSY ON U.S. NUCLEAR FIRST USE POLICY

Online at Newsy, Rep. Lieu discusses the urgent need to reform U.S. nuclear first use policy.

Most recently, Rep. Lieu introduced H.R. 6179, the Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act of 2016.
This legislation would prohibit the President from launching a nuclear first strike without a declaration of war by Congress.

“If you look at what it takes to launch nuclear weapons, it doesn’t take a lot.”

“The current process is flat out unconstitutional. My view is that the framers of the Constitution would never have authorized this scenario.
There is no way they would’ve said a nuclear first strike that can kill hunders of millions of people doesn’t mean war because it does mean war.”
