CONGRESSMAN LIEU STATEMENT ON THE PARIS AGREEMENT TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) issued the following statement regarding the Paris Agreement. In December 2015, the Paris Agreement was adopted by almost 200 countries, creating a global framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change. Today, the landmark agreement became international law.
“I am thrilled that the Paris Agreement is taking effect. Climate change presents an immediate and enduring threat to life as we know it, and today’s progress is critical to ensuring the world is on the appropriate path to combat it. It is now necessary that our own nation’s leaders take aggressive measures to protect our planet and ensure the United States’ leadership in the global economy.”
