CONGRESSMAN LIEU STATEMENT ON OFFICE OF GOVERNMENT ETHICS RECOMMENDATION TO INVESTIGATE KELLYANNE CONWAY

February 14, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) issued the following statement in response to the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) recommendation that the White House investigate and discipline Kellyanne Conway for violating federal regulations by promotiing Ivanka Trump's product line. Last week, Rep. Lieu sent a letter to the Director of OGE requesting an ethics investigation into her unethical actions.

"Last week I sent a letter to the Office of Government Ethics in response to Kellyanne Conway's unethical behavior. I am pleased OGE has called on the White House to investigate and discipline Kellyanne Conway for her clear violation of ethics laws by promoting Ivanka Trump's brand. It is not enough for the White House to state that she has been ‘counseled on that subject – and that's it.' The Trump Administration needs to understand that federal regulations—and normal ethical behavior—demand that the White House shall not be used for enriching or benefitting the President's family."
